Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – The Clarion softball team got a pair of strong pitching performances and some timely hitting, leading them to a sweep of Saint Augustine's 14-1 and 3-2.
The Golden Eagles improve their record to 2-6 overall to start the season.
Game 1
Rebecca Kelley pitched 5 strong innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out five.
Moriah Lynn paced the Golden Eagle offense going 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored, while driving in two.
Haley Pszyk was 2 for 2 at the plate with two runs scored while
Jessica Cartia had two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored.
Game 2
Clarion led 2-1 for most of the game and added an all-important insurance run in the 7
th inning to extend their lead to 3-1. That run would prove pivotal as the Golden Eagles held on for a 3-2 victory in Game 2.
Macy Rubin came on and got a strikeout to end the game in the bottom of the 7
th with the tying and winning runs on 2
nd and 3
rd. Clarion starter
Sarah Gossard gets the win, while Rubin picks up the save.
Moriah Lynn's base hit in the top of the 7
th to drive in
Taylor Nonnenberg proved to be the difference in the game.
Gossard was stellar throughout the game, not allowing a single base hit until the 6
th inning.
The Golden Eagles will be off until their spring break trip to Florida beginning on March 10
th.
