CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion softball team earned its second split in as many attempts, taking one of two from Mansfield at Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (6-27, 3-13 PSAC-C) rallied from a late two-run deficit to win the first game 10-9, but fell by a score of 13-4 in the late game.

Game 1
Rebecca Kelley began what would become a monster day with a big-time performance in Game 1, going 2-of-2 four with a home run, five RBI and a run scored in the opener against the Mountaineers.Â
Jessica Cartia also came to swing the bat, going 3-of-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.Â
Â
Cartia put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0 with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, but Mansfield built themselves an 8-2 advantage by the time the third inning arrived. Cartia drove in another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to get things going and Kelley followed that up with a three-run homer – her first of the season – to cut Mansfield's lead to 8-6.
Â
The Mountaineers' lead was 9-7 after the top of the sixth inning but the Golden Eagles were ready to erupt.Â
Cassie Daniels cut the lead to just one run when she scored
Cassidy Runyan, and Kelley broke the game open with a two-run single to put the Golden Eagles ahead 10-9. Clarion held off a wild rally from the Mountaineers in the final frame, shutting them down for the win.
Â
Game 2
The Golden Eagles got off to a strong start in the second game, keeping Mansfield off the scoreboard for the first three innings and taking a 2-0 lead of their own. Kelley hit her second home run of the day in the second inning, a solo shot to open the scoring, as part of her 2-for-3, two-RBI day performance in the second game.Â
Natalie Else sent 2-for- 2 with an RBI, and
Haley Pszyk also drove in a run.
Â
After Kelly and Else hit back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the third inning to make it 4-0, the Mountaineers pushed back with a six-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning. They added seven more runs in the fifth inning to make it a 13-4 edge, and the Mountaineers held on for another zero in the home half of the frame to take the win.
