Men's Basketball Wins Overtime Thriller Against Seton Hill

CLARION, Pa. – After trailing by as many as 18 points midway through the second half, the Clarion University men's basketball team clawed its way back to win an overtime thriller 76-72 at home versus Seton Hill, Wednesday night.

With just 1:28 remaining, the Golden Eagles trailed by just two points and put the game in the hands of their Point Guard Javontay Pipkin who managed to score the last four of seven points to put Clarion in a position to win the game.

With the score tied at 61 with just one minute remaining, Seton Hill's Nathan Davis drilled a three pointer to put the Griffins up 64-61. Some solid defense by Elijah Cottrill forced a turnover with just 12 seconds remaining and Cottrill would turn that steal into points burying a three to knot the ball game at 64 with just two second remaining in regulation.

It was all Clarion in overtime as they took over the game and ultimately shutdown the Griffin offense building a lead as big as eight and never looking back.

The Golden Eagles improve to 4-7, 2-5 in the PSAC on the season while Seton Hill drops to 3-10 overall and 1-6 in league play.

It was certainly a tale of two halves for Clarion as the Golden Eagles struggled from the floor in the first half, shooting just 34% from the field and 30% from three point range. The second half proved to be much healthier, as they knocked down 15 of 30 attempts (50%) while also shooting 100% from the charity stripe.

Pipkin finished with a career-high 26 points, while Cottrill added 19 points and five rebounds. Stevan Rodriguez notched his fourth double-double on the season scoring 10 points, while grabbing 16 defensive rebounds and one offensive rebound.

RJ Laugand also contributed seven points and dished out a game-high six assists, while grabbing seven boards on the night. Redshirt-Freshman Kass Taylor played a solid 17 minutes, adding five points and five rebounds while swiping two steals

For Seton Hill, Malik McKinney led the Griffins with 17 points and two boards, while Davis added 16 points and seven boards.

The Golden Eagles will play their final game of a three-game home stand this Saturday, January 12th, when they host Mercyhurst University at 3:00pm in the Student Recreation Center.
