Volleyball Falls to Edinboro, 3-0

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Clarion volleyball team dropped a straight-sets decision to Edinboro on the road on Friday, falling 3-0 (16-25, 20-25, 13-25) at McComb Fieldhouse.  The Golden Eagles will look for a weekend split tomorrow when they take on Mercyhurst to close out a five-match road swing.

Clarion had a difficult time halting the potent Fighting Scots attack on Friday, as Edinboro hit .407 for the match and .600 in the final set en route to the victory.  Comparatively the Golden Eagles hit just .081 for the match.  Julia Holden led the way for Clarion with nine kills, followed by five for Holly Pittman and four for Lauren Aichinger.  Pittman also contributed four service aces.

The first set was close early on, with Clarion starting on a 3-0 run, and Lydia Leiner tied the score at 10-10 with a kill.  The Fighting Scots responded with an 8-0 run of their own, taking an 18-10 lead on an error by Pittman.  Bella Burrelli and Cierah Jackson forced set point with back-to-back kills that made it 24-14, and though Aichinger and Pittman stayed the finish with kills, Edinboro won on a kill by Jackson.

The second set was also a close one, with the score tied at 17 after Aichinger and Aubrey Wrona blocked Erica Sharp.  A service error by Edinboro cut the Fighting Scots' lead to 19-18 but they rallied from there, with Edinboro scoring five straight to make it 24-18 and force set point.  They won it on an error by Wrona to make it 25-20.  The Fighting Scots opened up a 15-4 lead in the third set and cruised to the match win, taking the final set 25-13.
