Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Clarion volleyball team won the first of two road matches this weekend in convincing fashion, defeating Bloomsburg 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15) in conference action on Friday. The Golden Eagles (10-5, 2-1 PSAC) will look for the weekend sweep tomorrow when they take on Lock Haven.
The Golden Eagles hit .329 as a team on Friday, committing just 13 attack errors in 79 team attempts. Conversely, the Huskies hit just .105 as a team and recorded only 25 team digs. Clarion went off for nine aces on the night, including four from Holly Pittman. Pittman also recorded 10 kills on 12 attempts with no errors for a .833 hitting percentage. Julia Holden had a match-high 16 kills on 28 attempts with two errors for a .500 hitting percentage. Alexa Cundy dished out 33 assists and Aubrey Wrona had a team-high 10 digs.
Bloomsburg briefly held a lead in the first set, taking an 11-9 advantage on a Clarion error, but the Golden Eagles went on a nice run and took a 17-15 lead on a kill by Lauren Aichinger. Pittman won the race to 20 with a kill that made it 20-16, and Holden forced set point on the Huskies with a kill at 24-19. Holden and Aichinger then combined to block Bloomsburg's Ashley Adams for the set win.
Clarion enjoyed a 7-2 run to open the second set, including an ace by Cundy and a kill by Lydia Leiner to punctuate matters. The Huskies never again even the score as the Golden Eagles kept them at arm's length, going ahead 15-9 on an error by the Huskies and staking out a 20-15 lead on Grace Giza's service error. Aichinger and Cundy blocked Sydney Buell for set point and Holden finished the set with a kill to make it 25-18.
The Golden Eagles again opened a set on a 7-2 run, taking the early lead in the third set on a kill by Aichinger. Bloomsburg went on a run of their own to tie the score but Clarion rallied, with Wrona bouncing a kill to make it 20-14. The set ended on another service error by Giza, making it 25-15 and giving Clarion the match win.
