SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Clarion women's swimming team dominated on Friday evening, defeating Shippensburg 132-73 in a dual meet on the road. The full team will compete against Bloomsburg on November 8, while diving will be in action tomorrow against Westminster.
It was all Clarion from the word jump, as the Golden Eagles took the top two spots in the 200 Medley Relay to open the proceedings. The quartet of
Ava Arnold,
Amanda Dial,
Autumn Fortney and
Abbey Newman raced out to a 1:51.79 finish to take the win, giving Clarion their first win of the night.
Mary Clare Smith followed that up with an impressive win in the 1000 Free, besting Shippensburg's Madison Breiner by one full minute en route to the first-place finish.
Morgan Manglaviti followed that up with a win in the 200 Free, cruising to a 2:00.58 finish and nine team points. Newman capped the run of four straight event wins with a narrow victory in the 50 Free, edging teammate
Gabi Wayne with a time of 25.73 – just 0.3 ahead of the pack – for the win.
The Raiders claimed the next several events to pull tighter, but Manglaviti won the 100 Free to get her team back on track. Arnold was there for her first individual win of the night in the 200 Back touching the wall with a final time of 2:11.63.
