EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball returned to action on Saturday for their second straight road contest, falling 74-53 to East Stroudsburg in a PSAC crossover game. The Golden Eagles (2-7, 0-3 PSAC) will enjoy a roughly two-week long break before heading on the road to face Lock Haven and Mansfield.
The game was fairly close in the early going, with Clarion trailing by just three points after the first quarter and briefly took the lead in the second before falling behind.
Yndiah Bobo scored a layup at the 6:34 mark of the second quarter to put the Golden Eagles ahead 27-26, but the Warriors scored 14 of the next 19 points to take a 41-31 lead at the break. East Stroudsburg maintained that lead the rest of the way en route to the win.
Bobo tied with
Celeste Ryman for the team=high with 11 points, with the former going 5-of-7 from the field and the latter 3-of-4 with three free throws.
Jada Smith scored just seven points but pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, and
Olivia Boocks earned the start and scored 10 points.
ESU held the lead for the entirety of the first quarter, but Clarion never allowed things to get beyond a handful of possessions. Ryman made a three-pointer at the 3:07 mark of the period to make it 17-16, and Smith added a layup 37 seconds later to keep the team within one point. Boocks put Clarion ahead 25-22 with a trey less than a minute into the second quarter, and Bobo put them back ahead at the 6:34 mark with a layup. The Warriors countered and put on a 14-5 run, taking a double-digit lead.
East Stroudsburg ran their lead to as great as 24 points in the third quarter, with Claire Courter making a three-pointer at the 1:25 mark to push the lead to two dozen. The lead stayed above 20 points for the rest of the game.
