CLARION, Pa. – Traveling to West Virginia for a one game non-conference road trip, the Clarion men's basketball team fell to Salem University Wednesday night. The Tigers grabbed an early lead and never looked back as they defeated Clarion 93-64 Wednesday night
The Golden Eagles found some offensive success in the 1
st half, scoring 35 points and shooting 41% from the floor, but the early deficit built by the Tigers was too steep to overcome. Salem built a double-digit lead late in the first half and led 56-35 at the break.
Junior guard
Elijah Cottrill's game-high 17 points led the Blue and Gold, while
Khari Williams added nine points of his own.
Javontay Pipkin also chipped in eight points, while
Lawrence Lemon grabbed a team-high eight boards in 26 minutes of work for Clarion.
Salem was paced by Malik Toppin, who finished the night with 16 points and 16 rebounds on 8 of 11 shooting. The Tigers also held a 45-38 advantage in rebounds. Â
The win was the 3
rd in a row for Salem who now sits at 16-8 overall. Clarion drops to 5-16 and 3-13 in the PSAC.
The Golden Eagles will return to their home court on Saturday, February 16
th, when they take on Slippery Rock University at 3:00pm in the Student Rec Center.Â
