MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Clarion softball team continued action at the February Freeze-Out on Saturday afternoon, dropping a pair of decisions on a cloudy, rainy day in Myrtle Beach.  The Golden Eagles (0-4) fell by a 10-6 score to Southern Connecticut State in the early game and 9-2 to Georgian Court in the nightcap.

Makenzie Wolfe had a strong showing in the early game against the Owls, going 3-of-4 with two runs scored, including one on her first career home run.  The freshman blasted a leadoff clout in the top of the inning to put Clarion on the board, sparking what eventually turned into a four-run inning.
Katie Zameroski singled in her only at-bat, scoring two runners in the seventh inning.

Jessica Cartia rebounded from a slow offensive start with a better effort against the Lions, going 2-of-3 with an RBI and a run scored.  She hit her first home run of the season in the top of the first inning, briefly putting the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0.  Her single in the sixth inning and subsequent poor throw the fielder resulted in
Molly Cowden scoring, as well.

Macy Rubin (0-2) took the loss in the early game, allowing five earned runs and eight total in 2.1 innings pitched.
Chelsea Liroff entered in relief and held her own the rest of the way, allowing just two earned runs in the final 3.2 innings pitched.
Rebecca Kelley (0-2) lost the late game, allowing three runs in 1.2 innings pitched.

Southern Connecticut State jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the first game, scoring four runs apiece in the first and third innings.  Wolfe's home run jumpstarted the Golden Eagle offense, with
Brooke Cline,
Aryn Boyer and
Moriah Lynn all driving in runs in the fourth inning to make it 8-4.  Zameroski's two-run single in the seventh inning cut the lead to 10-6, but the Owls finished off the inning for the win.

Clarion took a 1-0 lead over Georgian Court on Cartia's homer , but the Lions scored eight unanswered runs to go ahead 8-1 by the end of the fifth inning.  In the sixth inning,
Molly Cowden led off the inning by reaching on an error, and came around to score after a throwing error on Cartia's hit to left field.  That closed out Clarions' coring, however, as the Lions recovered and won 9-2.
