Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Drops a Pair to Gannon on the Road, Series Set to Conclude on Monday

ERIE, Pa. – Traveling to Erie for their second PSAC West road trip, the Clarion baseball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader to Gannon at McConnell Family Stadium.  The Golden Eagles now 11-14 and, 2-4 in PSAC West play fell by a score of 10-1 in the first game and by a 17-1 score in the second.

Nate Torbich (2-2) fell in the early game, allowing three runs in 3.2 innings pitched. Kyle Thompson (2-4) took the loss in the second game throwing 2.0 innings, allowing seven runs and striking out three. Ben Barth and Thomas Lavin drove in runs on the day, with Lavin going 2-of-3 in the first game.

The Golden Knights tacked on six runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth and sixth of Game 1, with the Golden Eagles unable to capitalize despite leaving six runners stranded on base in that time.

Gannon came alive for six runs in the fourth inning, and the Golden Eagles were unable to claw there way back. Clarion picked up their lone run in the top of the first inning, when Lavin doubled to left center field scoring Bryce Jackson who double the previous at bat, but that is all the Golden Eagles could notch.

The Golden Eagles finished game one with eight hits, while committing three errors in the field.

Much like game one, the Clarion offense had a tough time getting things going offensively, unable to push a run a crossed the plate until the top of the fourth inning. After back-to-back-to-back singles from Nick Fugh, Tim Irons and Ben Barth, Fugh was able to score after a Barth single up the middle.

The Golden Knights offense exploded in top of the second and third innings scoring seven runs in the second, starting with a homerun to right field to start the scoring parade. Ian Hess homered in the bottom of the third inning to cap the scoring for Gannon pushing the lead to 15-0. The Golden Knights would plate two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting the game out of reach for good, pushing the lead to 17-0.

Due to weather Clarion will conclude the four game series with two home games at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler, with the first pitch set to cross the plate at 11 am.
