HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Clarion tennis team opened its week at the Spring Tennis Fest on Hilton Head Island on Tuesday, falling 7-0 to the College of Saint Benedict in the opener.  The Golden Eagles will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Edinboro.
 
The doubles pairing of Alivia Arnold and Vinisha Reddy were the brightest spot in the lineup on Tuesday, with the duo taking the No. 1 doubles match against Kayla McIver and Lily Fredericks.  It was a tight bout that Arnold and Reddy eventually won, holding off the Blazers for an 8-6 win.  Saint Benedict took the other two matches on the court by 8-1 scores, giving them the doubles point.
 
Arnold also put up the best fight in the singles session, splitting two sets with Tessa Rahrick in the No. 1 singles spot.  Rahrick took the opening frame by a 6-3 score but Arnold countered with a dominant second, winning 6-1 to force a third set tiebreaker.  Rahrick held Arnold off for a 10-6 win in the set, giving her team the point.  Reddy was a tough out for McIver in the No. 2 singles spot, keeping it close but falling 6-3, 6-2.
 
Katie Benson had a strong second set against Mackenzie Schurhamer, taking three games before falling 6-1, 6-3, and Sarah Kirmeyer played a tough second against Lauren Clark but also fell in straight sets.
