CARY, NC. – After a tough loss in game two of a two game afternoon on Friday, the Clarion baseball team tried to bounce back from the loss. In game one the Golden Eagles dropped a 9-1 decision to Pace University but bounced back in the night cap to defeat New Haven 5-4 in dramatic fashion.
The Golden Eagles move to 7-7 on the young season while the Settlers improve to 3-0 Â and the Chargers drop to 5-2.

Game 1
Clarion broke the deadlocked game open in the top of the third inning after Constantin doubled to left field and advanced to third on a ground ball from
Ben Barth.
Alex Ficorilli scored the run on a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The lead would not last for long though as Pace scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, courtesy of a three singles by the heart of the Setter lineup.
The score would remain 3-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Setters really got the train rolling. They tacked on three more runs on two hits and three walks, pushing the lead to 6-1.
Finding their rhythm in the late innings Pace plated three more runs to end the scoring parade, making the score 9-1 and cruising to the victory.
Clarion's offense was paced by sophomore
Will Constantin, who went 2 for 2 on the afternoon and drawing one walk.

Kyler Mellott got the nod on the mound, tossing 5.0 innings surrendering eight hits and four walks, while striking out six.
Tiler Sadowski added 2.0 innings pitched, allowing three hits and one walk. Freshman
Joe Rossi ended the game, throwing the last inning, striking out one Setters batter.

The Golden Eagles had five hits in the game. With Ficorilli driving in the lone Golden Eagle run.Â

Game 2
Junior
Jeremy Frazier carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, propelling the Golden Eagles to a 5-4 victory. Frazier was in command from the first pitch throwing 6.0 complete innings, surrendering two earned runs, fanning six Chargers batters, walking just two.

The scoring got started in the top of the first inning when a single from
Thomas Lavin brought around Ficorilli to give Clarion a 1-0 lead.

The score wouldn't remain 1-0 for long with
Cole Shaffer scoring from third in the top of the second inning off of a Constantin sac bunt. In the very next at bat
Chandler Palyas singled to center field to score freshman Danny Fox from second base.
The score would remain 3-0 up until the bottom of the fifth inning when Clarion struck for one more run thanks to a single from Palyas, a fielder's choice from Ficorilli and a ground ball from
Bryce Jackson to give the Golden Eagles all the momentum.
New Haven would tally two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, courtesy of a double and a sac fly, making the score 4-2 and tie the game in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a double that found the right field corner tying the game at four all.
It all came down to the last frame of baseball with the game tied and the Golden Eagles prevailed. Palyas roped a triple to deep left center field putting him in scoring position and just one batter later Ficorilli would single driving in Palyas.
Reliever Derrick Pritchard slammed the door on the Chargers recording 3.0 innings pitched, striking out four and surrendering just two hits to pick up his fourth win of the early season.

The blue and gold tallied 10 total hits with multiple hits from Palyas,
Nick Fugh and
Dan Fox. Palyas lead the offensive attack going 3 for 5 scoring twice and recording one RBI.

The Golden Eagles will conclude their Spring Break Trip tomorrow when they take on the LIU Post Pioneers at 10 am.
