Softball Swept by Bloomsburg in Season Finale

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion softball team said good-bye to its seniors on Sunday afternoon, but the Golden Eagles were unable to overcome the top team in the PSAC Central in falling by scores of 12-1 and 9-2 to Bloomsburg at Memorial Field.

Makenzie Wolfe drove in two of the Golden Eagles' three runs on Sunday afternoon, one on a fielder's choice in the first game and the other with a bloop single to right field in the second game.  Hannah Norton scored Wolfe later in that inning, dropping an RBI single into left field to bring her around and make it an 8-2 score.

The Huskies jumped out to a big lead early in the first game, scoring five runs each in the first and second innings to take a 10-0 lead.  The Golden Eagles got things going in the bottom of the third when Noelle Murray led off the inning with her first career hit, a long double hit to the fence in left center.  Moriah Lynn lined a ball to center field to put runners on the corners, and Murray scored on a sharp ground ball to shortstop by beating the throw home.  Chelsea Liroff kept the Huskies off the scoreboard in the third and fourth innings, but Bloomsburg added two runs in the fifth and held on for the win.

The second game was much closer early on as Macy Rubin kept the Huskies off balance, allowing a run in the top of the first inning and following it up with three zeroes.  The Huskies broke through for three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to go up 8-0.  The Golden Eagles extended the game to the seventh inning, starting when Taylor Nonnenberg reached base on a dropped third strike with one out.  Nonnenberg made it to second base on a passed ball, and then came around to score on Wolfe's RBI single.  Hannah Norton hit a soft liner to left to score Wolfe and make it 8-2, but the Huskies added a late run and got the win.
