CLARION, Pa. – On Senior Day, the Clarion women's swimming team held off a last ditch effort from host Edinboro for a dual win on Friday night, with the Golden Eagles defeating the Fighting Scots 188-106. Clarion (4-2, 3-1 PSAC) will be back in action tomorrow at the Western PA Invitational hosted by Pittsburgh University.
The 200 Medley Relay team of
Ava Arnold,
Candice Chalus,
Autumn Fortney and
Abbey Newman opened the scoring with a first place appearance, finishing in a final time of 1:49.13 good enough for a nine-point start to the night.
Mary Clare Smith and
Kaitlynn Henninge followed that up with a 1-2 finish in the 1000 Free, with Smith finishing with a final time of 11:11.05, while Henninge finished with a final time of 11:14.12 to score 13 team points.
Gabi Wayne and Morgan Manglaviti revolved the same door in the 200 Free as Clarion took an early lead to get the night started.
Ava Arnold and
Stephanie Setar followed that up with a one-two finish in the 100 Back touching the wall in 1:00.20 and 1:02.08 respectively.
The Golden Eagles would go without a first place finish before
Courtney Kosanovic broke through in the 200 Butterfly, just edging out Fortney with a final time of 2:19.57 for nine team points.
In the 200 Back the duo of Arnold and Setar swept the event going one, two, adding 13 points for the Golden Eagles.
Fortney and Newman Arnold would continue their strong performances in the 100 Fly finishing first and second with final times of 59.75 and 1:00.30.
To close out the night Newman, Wayne,
Letizia Collini and Manglaviti took home a second place finish in the 200 Relay touching the wall with a final time of 1:40.45.
In the diving portion
Emma Kehn took home two first place finishes collecting a score of 289.55 in the 3M Dive and a 241.45 in the 1M Dive.
