CLARION, Pa. - Freshman Gerald Jarmon paced the Clarion offense with a team high 20 second half points on his way to a career high 25 points, as the Golden Eagles men's basketball team downed the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks 80-77 in non-conference action, Friday night at Tippin Gymnasium.
The Golden Eagles started the game hot, racing out to an early 11 point lead, scoring primarily with dribble-drive penetration. The Redhawks pulled the game back within single digits after an Isaiah Lewis three, making the score 29-21 in favor of the blue and gold.
Building on the three from Lewis, Roberts Wesleyan put together a solid offensive stretch making the next six baskets to grab the lead at 30-29. Clarion was able to answer the call on offense battling back and forth with the Redhawks heading into the half trialing 38-34.
The Golden Eagle offense started the second half right where they left off in the first half pulling back within just one basket after a Jordan Agyemang layup made the score 40-38.
With the lead changing hands back and forth most of the second half, the Golden Eagles were able to take the lead for good at the 8:25 mark when Kaison Branch made a catch and shoot three pointer off a feed from Lawrence Lemon putting Clarion on top 57-55.
From that point on it was all Clarion as the lead stretched to a game high 13 points on the back of 11 points from Jarmon.
In the first half the Golden Eagles shot 46% from the field and improved that mark to 59% in the second half. For the game Clarion shot 53% from the field. Filling up the stat sheet from all over the floor, the blue and gold shot 39% from beyond the arc for the game and 57% from the charity stripe.
Jarmon paced the Clarion offense with a career high 25 points on 8 of 14 shooting in 25 minutes of action, while grabbing three rebounds, two assists and adding one steal on the defensive end.
Agyemang picked up his first double-double of the year scoring 14 points, while bringing down a game high 10 rebounds in 31 minutes of play.
Other notable scoring efforts from the Golden Eagles include Branch who shot 50% from the field for 13 points, Steve Kelly and Lemon who each added nine points and five assists and Godspower Ogide who added three points and six blocks on the night.
The Redhawks offense was paced by guard Reggie Clark who scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 28 minutes of action.
Having a chance to upset the Redhawks twice in as many days, Clarion travels to Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday, January 24th for a non-conference matchup slated to start at 3 pm.
