Cross Breaks Season Scoring Record in Win Over UPJ

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Kylee Cross set the program's single-season point scoring record with six games left to play, and the Golden Eagle soccer team picked up their first road win of the season on Saturday, defeating Pitt-Johnstown 3-2 in PSAC West action.

Cross's record-breaking point came in the 20th minute of action, with the game tied at 1-1. Cross fed a pass to Alayna Wicker, and the freshman buried the chance to put the Golden Eagles ahead by a 2-1 score. That gave Cross 13 points on the season, breaking what had a been a four-way tie atop the single-season leaderboard. The last Golden Eagle to score 12 points in a season was Marina Kelly, who did so in 2016.

The assist, Cross's fifth of the season, also set a new record in program history. She had been tied with five other players for the single-season assist record. As with the overall points record, Kelly was the last Golden Eagle to post four assists in a season.

Wicker's goal in the 20th minute briefly put the Golden Eagles ahead, but the Mountain Cats responded with one of their own 10 minutes later to even the score up at 2-2. The freshman forward delivered her second tally of the game and fourth of the season just five minutes into the second half, taking a pass from Madison Spitko and firing it past Megan Giesey to put Clarion ahead 2-1. That goal proved to be the game-winner as Alexandra Velez stopped every shot that came her way the rest of the contest, including a save on Abby Jackson in the waning seconds of the game.

With her second goal, Wicker moved into a tie with Cross and seven others for eighth on the program's single-season goals list. The duo has four goals apiece. The program record for goals is six, set in 2008 by Jill Miller.

Spitko got things rolling for the Golden Eagles in the first half, scoring her second goal of the season in just the third minute. With her assist on Wicker's second goal of the game, she now has five points in her last three games.
