ERIE, Pa. – The Golden Eagle soccer team played its penultimate game of the 2021 season on Wednesday, falling by a 5-0 score to Gannon at McConnell Family Stadium. Clarion (4-11-1, 4-10-1 PSAC West) will close out their schedule this weekend when they host IUP at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 6.
The Golden Knights were in control of the game from the outset, scoring three goals in the first 22 minutes and taking a 4-0 lead into the halftime break. Conversely, Clarion's only shot of the first half were just off the mark, as
Kylee Cross made an attempt on net but missed wide to the right in the 27
th minute and too far high in the 35
th.
Gannon scored again in the 52
nd minute, when Laurel Prokopchak made it 5-0 off a pass from Megan McCartney.
Alexis Moyer recorded Clarion's first shot on goalkeeper Jordan August in the 78
th minute, forcing August into a save in the lower righthand corner. Cross put another shot on net in the 90
th minute but could not beat August, who earned the shutout.
