CLARION, Pa. – Returning home after a one game road trip for a one game non-conference tilt, the Clarion men's basketball team fell to Salem University Friday night. The Tigers grabbed an early lead and never looked back as they defeated Clarion 99-73 inside of Tippin Gym.
The Golden Eagles found some offensive success in the 2nd half, shooting 36% from the floor, but the early deficit built by the Tigers was too steep to overcome. Salem built a double-digit lead early in the first half and led 51-33 at the break.
Guard Gerald Jarmon's game-high 21 points led the Blue and Gold, while senior Lawrence Lemon picked up his first double double of the season with 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds and one block in 31 minutes of action.
Two other Golden Eagles finished closer to double figures with Steve Kellyadding nine and Mason Mraz adding eight points, while grabbing six boards.
Clarion shot 31% for the game from the field, while going 28-33 from the charity stripe. The Blue and Gold out scored the Tigers in the paint 32-22 throughout the game, but electrifying three point shooting from Salem proved to be the difference in the game.
The Tigers shot 73% from three in the first half to build their lead and paced play in the second half with the trey finishing the game 67% from beyond the arc.
Salem was paced by Tanner Barron, who finished the day with 21 points and five rebounds on 8 of 10 shooting. Four other Tigers added double digit points with Jordan Forbes adding 19 points, Fonz Hale adding 19 and Aleksa Dobrijevic adding 13 points.
The win helps Salem improve in the win column who now sit at 3-2 overall. Clarion drops to 1-6 overall on the year.
The Golden Eagles will have less than 24 hours to try and bounce back as they take on Salem again tomorrow inside of Tippin Gym. Tip-off is slated for 3 pm.
