CLARION, Pa. - Looking to close the season out on a high note, the Clarion men's basketball team toppled the visiting Mount Aloysius Mounties 67-42 at Tippin Gymnasium Wednesday night. With the win, the Golden Eagles finish the year 4-6 overall, while the Mounties fall to an early 0-3 on the year.Â
Clarion got off to a hot start, building an early 14 point lead in the opening minutes of the first half to force a Mounties timeout. After the break Clarion lead by as many as 10 points before breaking the game open with four minutes remaining in the half.Â
Lawrence Lemon made the score 35-18 at the 2:58 mark when he knocked down a layup in the paint off an assist from freshman Mekhi Reynolds.Â
From that point on it was all Clarion, taking a lead into the locker room at the half 35-20.
The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 45% from the field from the first half and an even more impressive 80% from the charity stripe.Â
Clarion started the second half on a 6-0 run thanks to freshman guard Gerald Jarmon taking command of the blue and gold offense. Jarmon started the second half knocking down a jumper in transition and after a Steve Kelly steal, Lemon capitalized, draining a jumper of his own while being fouled by a Mount Aloysius defender to put Clarion up 17 points.
Jarmon followed that up with a deep three pointer after a Mounties turnover and the route was on. Kelly put Clarion up 21 points after grabbing an offensive rebound and converting a layup in the paint.Â
The Mounties pulled back within 17 after a free throw but Jarmon responded at the opposite end of the floor with a three pointer from the wing to give the Golden Eagles a commanding 22 point lead.Â
Jarmon put Clarion up 25 after hitting his sixth three of the game and at the 6:52 mark buried a fastbreak three pointer putting the blue and gold up 28 points and marking his seventh and final three of the game.Â
Clarion finished the game shooting 46% from the field and 46% from beyond hte arc, while hitting 5 of 8 free throws.Â
Jarmon led all scorers with 29 points in 31 minutes of action, grabbing four rebounds while adding one assist.Â
Lemon notched his second double double of the year, adding 16 points and 10 boards in 33 minutes of action. Mason Mraz grabbed a season high 10 defensive rebounds, while Kelly added 11 points, three assists and five rebounds.Â
Izzy Britt led Mount Aloysius with eight points in 13 minutes of action for the Mounties.
