Baseball Upended by Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Traveling to Greensburg for their third PSAC West road trip, the Clarion baseball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader to Seton Hilll at the Dick's Sporting Goods Sports Complex.  The Golden Eagles now 4-15 and 2-8 in PSAC West play fell by a score of 7-1 in the first game and by a 15-1 score in the second.

Jeremy Frazier fell in the early game, allowing four runs in 4.0 innings pitched. Trevor McGee took the loss in the second game throwing 2.0 innings, allowing seven runs and striking out one. Alex Ficorilli and Thomas Lavin drove in runs on the day, with Ficorilli knocking a solo bomb in the first game.

The Griffins tacked on four runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth of Game 1, with the Golden Eagles unable to capitalize despite leaving seven runners stranded on base in that time.

Seton Hill came alive for four runs in the fourth inning, and the Golden Eagles were unable to claw there way back. Clarion picked up their lone run in the top of the first inning, when Ficorilli homered to center field on a 2-1 count, but that is all the Golden Eagles could notch.

The Golden Eagles finished game one with five hits, while being perfect in the field.

Much like game one, the Clarion offense had a tough time getting things going offensively, pushing just one run across the plate again in the top of the first inning. After back-to-back-to-back singles from Matt Privette and Ficorilli, Lavin singled up the middle on a 3-2 fastball, scoring Privette from second base.

The Griffins offense was consistent all game long, notching runs in the bottom of the first, third, fourth and fifth innings. Heading into the fifth inning, Seton Hill held a 9-1 lead until adding six runs in the fifth on five hits, pushing the lead to 15-1 and ultimately put the game out of reach. Clarion finished the back end of the game with just one hit as the offense stalled unable to gain traction.

Clarion will have to wait to get revenge on the Griffins as they take on the Vulcans of Cal U in a four game series starting on April 23 at Memorial Stadium before hosting Seton Hill on April 28 at 1 pm to conclude the series.
