Soccer Stopped by Mercyhurst, Falls 4-0

ERIE, Pa. – The Golden Eagle soccer team went on the road for the first time in 11 days, but they were unable to muster an offensive attack in falling 4-0 to Mercyhurst on Wednesday. Clarion (2-3-1, 2-3-1 PSAC West) returns home to take on Gannon on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Memorial Stadium.

The Lakers controlled the action for most of the game, scoring three goals in the first half and keeping the Golden Eagles from putting a mark on the score sheet. The best scoring opportunity for Clarion came early in the first half, when the Lakers turned the ball over in their end and put the ball on the foot of Madison Spitko. Spitko fired a shot from the top of the box, going for the lower righthand corner, but goalkeeper Maddie Elbro dove to her left to make the save.

Mercyhurst struck first, with Taryn Baxter picking a corner and putting a shot into the upper lefthand corner in the 12th minute. Lauren Casey potted a pair down the stretch to bump the lead to 3-0, and Amber Thomas added one in the 55th minute to seal the scoring.
