SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Golden Eagle soccer team opened up their 2021 season on the road on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion Slippery Rock by a 7-0 score.
 
Clarion (0-1-0, 0-1-0 PSAC West) had been within a respectable distance of The Rock for the most part, but Slippery Rock scored a trio of goals in the final 3:45 to balloon the final deficit. The Golden Eagles mustered six shots but were unable to squeeze any past goalkeeper Emma Yoder, who recorded the shutout win.
 
Kylee Cross put the Golden Eagles on the offensive early on, firing for the lower right-hand corner against Yoder in the 13
th minute to force a save. Slippery Rock countered two minutes later, with Rachel Edge scoring off a feed from Sydney Patrick to make it 1-0.
 
The Rock tacked on three more goals heading into the midpoint of the second half, with 
Jordan Lawrence forcing Yoder into a save with a shot on net in the 68
th minute. Slippery Rock recorded three more goals in the final minutes.
 
Clarion will return home for their first game at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 11 against Cal U. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
