GREENSBURG, Pa. -The Golden Eagles men's basketball team, traveled to Greensburg, Pa. to take on the hosting Seton Hill Griffins Saturday afternoon, and after an over time period that came down to the buzzer, Clarion fell by a final score of 93-92.
Gerald Jarmon scored a game high 27 points, while
Connor Ferrell scored 25 points and
Lawrence Lemon added 22 points.Â
The loss moves the Blue and Gold to 7-10 overall and 3-9 in the conference, while the Griffins improve to 3-16, and 3-11 in PSAC Play.Â
From the opening tip-off the game was back and forth as the lead changed six times throughout the game.
Seton Hill jumped out to an early three point lead, but after
Mekhi Reynolds made a layup to make it, 4-3, Jarmon buried a three pointer in transition to put Clarion ahead 6-4. Seton HIll matched the score with a layup and the back and forth battle started.Â
Neither team was able to build a lead larger than six points, and that was in favor of the Griffins. They held a six point lead with 7:20 left in the first half, but after a foul sent both teams to the bench for a media timeout, Jarmon knocked downed both free throws to pull Clarion back within two baskets.Â
Another defensive foul on the next Clarion possession allowed Lemon to knock down his own pair of free throws to put the Golden Eagle down just two points, 25-23.
Seton Hill made a three to build their lead back to five points, but after a pair of free throws from big man
Madior Seye, and back to back fastbreak scores from Jarmon, Clarion found themselves with the lead with just under five minutes left to play in the first half.Â
The Griffins managed to build their lead again back to five points, heading into the locker room with a lead 40-34.
Clarion battled with the Griffins for much of the second half, but at the 4:12 mark the Blue and Gold tied the game after an and one free throw from Ferrell and took the lead with three minutes left to play after Jarmon went one for two at the charity stripe to make it 74-71.
The Golden Eagles stretched their lead to five points at the 1:25 mark after a Lemon jumper, but Seton Hill battled back once again tying the game with just :23 seconds left to play.
Like the story of the entire game, both teams traded baskets in overtime, but it was
Seton Hill that managed to come out on top in the end as Ryan Meis made a jumper as time expired sealing the victory, 93-92.
Clarion shot well from all around, going 49% from the field on 33 of 67 shots, while knocking down 50% of their shots from beyond the arc as well as 79% from the charity stripe.Â
The Golden Eagles will have a chance to get revenge quickly though as they will play host to the Griffins on Monday, January 31st. Tip-off is slated for 7 pm.
