CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle volleyball team will continue their 2022 season at the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Friday, with Clarion earning the No. 2 seed in the bracket and drawing seventh-seeded West Liberty in the opening round. This year's regional tournament will be hosted by Gannon at the Highmark Events Center.
Â
Clarion owns a 26-4 record this season, and just today competed in their second consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament final, falling in five sets to Gannon in a barnburner in Erie. The Golden Eagles have been in the top-two in the Atlantic region rankings in each of the last two polls, and held a No. 1 ranking in the initial numbered poll.
Â
The match against the Hilltoppers will also allow the Golden Eagles an opportunity at a measure of revenge. West Liberty was the only team to defeat Clarion in the non-conference portion of the schedule, defeating the Golden Eagles by a 3-0 score on Sept. 10 at the Atlantic Region Crossover hosted by the Hilltoppers.
Â
The Golden Eagles were awarded four all-conference selections this past week, including the PSAC West Athlete of the Year in setter
London Fuller. She made the PSAC West First Team for the second straight year, as did outside hitter
Cassidy Snider.
Julia Piccolino earned First Team honors after making the Second Team in 2022, and
Lauren Aichinger was named Second Team All-PSAC West for the first all-conference laurels of her career.
Note: A previous version of this story noted that the Golden Eagles would play on Thursday, November 17. That was in error.
