SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle men's swimming & diving team earned a win over a PSAC opponent on the road on Friday night, defeating Shippensburg 122.5 – 82.5.
The 200 Medley Relay unit of
Connor Cary,
Paul Flowers,
David Bocci and
Austin Prokopec got things going, edging the Raiders in the opening event of the night. Prokopec beat Shippensburg's Eli Zinn to the wall by less than a half-second, finishing with a time of 1:36.54 to give his team their first points of the night.
Ty Rabenstein and
Trent Napholz proceeded to tack on more with a 1-2 finish in the 1000 Free, finishing in times of 10:15.29 and 10:18.86 for the top two spots in the event. Those also represented PSAC qualifying marks for the pair.
Rabenstein also won the 500 Free on the night, leading the field with a time of 4:56.81 that also hit a PSAC qualifying mark.
Reigning PSAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Dominic Cortopassi continued his streak of strong competition with a win in the 200 Free, winning with a time of 1:46.35 that also represented a conference qualifying time. Cortopassi later went on to win the 200 Back, finishing with a time of 1:58.22.
Austin Prokopec just narrowly hit his own PSAC cut in the 50 Free, touching the wall in 22 seconds flat to win that event as well.
The Golden Eagles really stacked the points up in the 200 Fly, with Bocci, Cary and
Nolan Songer finishing 1-2-3 for 15 team points. Bocci led the way with a time of 1:52.15, followed by Cary's time of 1:56.05. Songer, meanwhile, hit a PSAC qualifying mark with his third-place time of 2:02.71, which was nearly 12 full seconds faster than Shippensburg's Matt Beard.
Their team win assured, the Golden Eagles wrapped things up with a victory in the 200 Free Relay, with DCarry, Cortopassi, Songer and Prokopec finishing in a time of 1:27.49.
