Beard Breaks TJ Record at YSU Icebreaker

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --- Delaney Beard broke a 13-year-old school record on Friday night, part of an all-around excellent effort by the Golden Eagle track & field team at the YSU Icebreaker hosted by Youngstown State.

Beard was the top finisher among non-Division I competitors in the Triple Jump, finishing behind only the Penguins' Nia Williams-Mathews. She cleared a mark of 11.53m on Friday, just 0.01 meters ahead of Diane Kress's previous school record set in 2009. That mark also blew away the PSAC qualifying mark in the event, ensuring that Beard will be at the PSAC Indoor Championships later this season.

Another historic mark came in the Weight Throw, with newcomer Madison Foringer climbing into fifth place on the program's all-time performance list. She recorded a toss of 13.46m, topping Emma Pesicka's mark of 13.08m set in 2020. Meanwhile, Shelly Jones improved on her own mark that ranked second on the program's all-time performance list, hitting a PR with a 12.96m in the Shot Put to place third in the event. That also represented a conference qualifying mark.

Elsewhere in the field, Beard and Emily Lodge both recorded PRs in the Long Jump. Beard cleared a mark of 5.04m while Lodge was just a short distance behind her, hitting a distance of 5.03m. Emily Pleslusky

There were a number of Golden Eagles that excelled in the track events as well, specifically the distance events. Allison Farson, building off a strong cross country season where she enjoyed some of her best runs near the end of the year, hit a PSAC qualifying mark in the with a sixth place finish in the 5000m. She finished the event in a time of 18:49.09, which also represented a PR in the indoor 5K. Meanwhile, Emily McDonnell took fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:24.83, also good enough for a conference mark.
