CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Closing out a short road stint, the Clarion University men's basketball team was defeated by Cal U Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center on the campus of Cal U by a final score of 90-60. The loss moves the Golden Eagles to 9-16 overall and 5-15 in PSAC play.
Gerald Jarmon lead the charge for the Golden Eagles, finishing with a team high 20 points, while big man
Madior Seye finished with his first career double-double, adding 14 points and a game high 14 rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Guard
Connor Ferrell played 29 minutes, registering 11 points on 5 of 13 shooting, while adding three rebounds and one assist in the loss.
Clarion shot 31% from the field, including 67% from the charity stripe.
It was all Cal U from the opening tip as Clarion trailed 45-26, heading into the locker room at halftime. Jarmon led the way for Clarion in the first half scoring 11 points, while Seye was halfway to a double-double with four points and five boards.
The Vulcans started the game hot shooting lights out from the field. Cal U ended the half on a 7-3 run stealing all the momentum out of the gym.
The Vulcans continued their hot shooting from the field in the second half, shooting 43% from the floor and 91% from the free throw line. Although Clarion fought to climb back all game long the defensive pressure from teh Vulcans was to much as the Golden Eagles committed eight turnovers compared to Cal U's four. Clarion scored more second chance points, 14-2, but were out-rebounded by the Vulcans 47-43.
Phillip Alston would pave the way for the Vulcans on the afternoon, scoring a game high 23 points on 11-13 shooting, while grabbing a team high 11 rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
The Blue and Gold return to action Monday night when they return home for their final home game to take on Gannon at 5:30 pm.
