WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Golden Eagle softball team wrapped up its week at The Spring Games on Friday, falling in a pair of games in their last doubleheader in Florida. Clarion fell by an 8-0 score to Concord in the early game, and by a 9-6 score to Ashland in the late game.

Concord 8, Clarion 0
Recap: Neither team got on the scoreboard in the opening frame, but Concord eventually opened the scoring with an RBI single through the right side by Rachael Koller in the top of the second inning. The Mountain Lions tacked on another pair of runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Golden Eagles' best scoring chance in the early portion of the game was in the second inning, when
Hannah Norton led off with an infield single to short. Norton took second on a wild pitch to move into scoring position with no outs, but the Golden Eagles could not drive her home.

Ashley DeWeese put up zeroes in each of the next two innings, but the Mountain Lions were able to notch four in the top of the sixth inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead entering the final frame. They tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh inning to seal the win.

Ashland 9, Clarion 6
Recap: The second game of the day featured significant offensive fireworks, with both teams putting up five-spots at one point. After two scoreless full innings to start the contest, Ashland posted five runs in the bottom of the third, including a pair of two-run home runs from Alexis Lavdis and Maddy Burdette.

This time, the Golden Eagles followed suit, scoring five runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning.
Desi Allen led the inning with a walk, and
Allison Gilliam followed up with a single through the middle.
Kendyl Switzer sacrificed the pair up a base, but it was not until
Nicole Collins' two-out RBI single that the Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard.
Brooke Cline drove in Gilliam with a single through the left side, and Rachel Helsely brought them all home with a towering three-run home run over the left field fence.

The scoreboard continued to light up in the bottom of the fourth inning as Ashland scored three more runs, with Jordyn Severns hitting a two-run blast. Switzer cut the lead to 8-6 in the top of the fifth inning, scoring
Hannah Norton with a groundout, but the Eagles added an insurance run in the sixth and held on for the 9-6 win.
