PITTSBURGH – The Golden Eagle track & field team concluded their first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, competing at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
Delaney Beard was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles on Saturday, winning the Triple Jump in the day's field events. Beard cleared a mark of 10.65m on Saturday, pacing the field of 10 at the event to take first place overall. She was not the only jumper to excel in Saturday's action, as
Jenna Uncapher took fourth place overall with a leap of 4.97m in the Long Jump. That represented a new PR for the junior, breaking her former best mark of 4.88m set a year ago at IUP.
The other field athlete to win their event was
Autumn Pettinato, who led the field in the Javelin with a first-place toss. Pettinato threw the implement a distance of 31.47m, roughly three-quarters of a meter further than second-place Alex Montgomery of Geneva.
Shelly Jones and
Emma Pesicka rounded out the strong day in the throwing events with a 3-4 finish in the Discus, with both athletes performing well in their first outdoor action of the year. Jones took third with a mark of 38.36m, while Pesicka took fourth with a mark of 38.21m. Jones' Discus mark represented the best toss of her college career, and also marked her second PSAC qualifying mark of the year. She hit the mark in the Shot Put 24 hours before. Pesicka's mark also qualified for the PSAC Outdoor Championships, as did
Madison Brooks' mark of 37.22m, which was sixth in the event.
Kaylen Sharrow took eighth place in the 100H, crossing the line in 18.29, while
Leah Perry took ninth in the 400H with a time of 1:21.12. That rounded out the performances for the Golden Eagles on the track.
