Box Score HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Golden Eagle tennis team fought hard at the top of the lineup, but Clarion was unable to overcome Roanoke in falling by a 7-0 score to the Maroons in Hilton Head.
 
The best matches of the day came at the top of the singles lineup, with Alexis Strouse and Savannah Buttery competing in tight contests at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Strouse rallied from a one-set deficit to the Maroons' top player, Lucy Collins, winning the second set 6-3 to send the match to a third-set tiebreaker. That set was just as tight as the rest of the match, with Collins finally holding off Strouse for a 10-8 tiebreaker victory.
 
Buttery, on the other hand, played a close straight-sets loss to Halle Fernstrum. Fernstrum took the first set by a 6-3 score but Buttery tightened things up in the second set, pulling to within 5-4 before Fernstrum took the final game.
 
Elsewhere, the doubles duo of Strouse and Alyson Fisher played a hard-fought match at No. 1 doubles, falling to Collins and Fernstrum by an 8-3 score. Josie Beckerleg also played a close second set against Roanoke's Sophie Bartholomaus, but ultimately fell by a 6-1, 6-3 score in No. 5 singles.
