ERIE, Pa. – The Golden Eagle softball team concluded their 2022 season on Saturday afternoon, falling in both ends of a doubleheader to Mercyhurst. Clarion dropped the first game by a 10-2 score and the second by an 8-0 mark.
 
Game 1 - Mercyhurst 10, Clarion 2 (6 inn.)
Recap: The Lakers went off for five runs in the bottom of the second inning, giving themselves a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest. 
Hannah Norton was responsible for driving in both of the Golden Eagles' runs, starting with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning. 
Makenzie Wolfe hit a one-out double to left field and advanced to third on a passed ball, and Norton brought her home with a deep fly ball to center field, cutting the score to 5-1. Norton drove in another run in the top of the sixth inning, making it 6-2 with an RBI single that drove in 
Ashley DeWeese.
 
Other than those two instances, though, the game belonged to the Lakers. Mercyhurst tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including a two-run double by Allison DeJidas that made it 9-2. Marisa Cartellone drove DeJidas in with an RBI single later in the inning, making it 10-2 and wrapping up the game.
 
Norton finished the first game 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs, while 
Makenzie Wolfe went 1-for-3 with a run scored. With the final hit of her career, 
Makenzie Wolfe finished with 114 career hits, tying her with Leslie Schattauer (1993-96) for the second-most hits in a career in program history.
 
Game 2 – Mercyhurst 8, Clarion 0 (5 inn.)
Recap: Mercyhurst held the Golden Eagles to just two hits in the second game of the day, with 
Alyssa Stitt and 
Chelsea Liroff each recording base knocks. Stitt's base hit represented the first major scoring chance for the Golden Eagles in the game, as it advanced Norton to second and gave Clarion two runners on with two outs. 
Desi Allen grounded out to shortstop to end the threat.
 
Mercyhurst, meanwhile, scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning, and then tacked out three more in the sixth inning to take a 6-0 lead on the Golden Eagles. Kaci Alderson hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to invoke the eight-run rule and give the Lakers the win.
