Box Score GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Golden Eagle tennis team opened up their season with an inspired effort on Saturday, with three individuals winning their respective brackets at the Grove City Invitational.
Savannah Buttery,
Davan Lion and
Josie Beckerleg were each victorious in their singles brackets, winning a pair of matches apiece to claim the titles at the event.
Davan Lion was the winner in the C Bracket, defeating Mount Union's Emily Peel by a score of 6-1, 6-1 and shutting out Alfred's Macy Younberg by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
Savannah Buttery was the champion of the F bracket, beating Thiel's Reagan Hayne 6-2, 6-1 and Alfred's Alexis Giordano 6-1, 6-1.
Rounding things out in the victorious singles bracket for the Golden Eagles was Beckerleg, who started off the day against Grove City's Mia Perry in a 6-4, 6-3 win. She went on to beat Grove City's Julia Ehrenberger 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles action,
Alyson Fisher won two matches with two different partners. She teamed with Buttery to beat Thiel's Reagan Hayne and Emily Peters 8-6, and later teamed with
Alexis Strouse to defeat a pair from Mount Union 8-3. She also won a singles match over Thiel's Toby Atwood, 8-3.
