Men's Swimming & Diving Wins at PennWest Duals

CALIFORNIA, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles men's swimming and diving team carried the day at the PennWest Duals hosted by California (Pa.) on Saturday, with Clarion defeating Edinboro 144-56.

Clarion's dominance in the event was perhaps best summarized by one simple fact: the Golden Eagles boasted the winner of nine out of the 11 events contested on the afternoon, and on five of those occasions featured the first two competitors to touch the wall. That allowed Clarion to rack up scads of points on the Fighting Scots en route to the win.

The first such instance of the Golden Eagles taking the top two spots came in the first individual event, when Ty Rabenstein and Isaac Wayne were the first two to complete the 1000 Free. Clarion actually had three swimmers atop the leaderboard in the 200 IM, with Mason Irwin (2:00.35) hitting a PSAC-qualifying time to lead the field. Michael Lintelman (2:03.50) and Mason Peck (2:04.16) were close behind him. Connor Cary and Peck claimed the top two spots in the in the 100 Backstroke with PSAC times of 52.93 and 53.43 respectively, and the trio of David Bocci (4:49.13), Trent Napholz (5:08.02) and Bobby Shotts (5:13.70) led the way in the 500 Free.

Clarion rounded out their trio of events with three of the top finishers in the 100 Breaststroke. Paul Flowers was first with a time of 1:02.53, topping teammates Lintelman (1:03.95) and Joe Feiser (1:04.75).

The 200 Medley Relay squad of Cary, Flowers, Dominic Cortopassi and Austin Prokopec kicked off the day by taking the top spot in their event, out-pacing the Fighting Scots by nearly two seconds with a time of 1:36.58. Cortopassi hit a PSAC-qualifying mark with his win in the 200 Free, touching the wall in a time of 1:46.70, and Bocci won the 100 Fly with a time of 51.15. Irwin added a victory in the 100 Free, out-pacing the Fighting Scots' Luke Edmonds with a time of 48.76.
