EDINBORO, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle men's swimming & diving team improved to 7-2 in dual meets with their fourth straight meet win, as Clarion defeated Edinboro 131-66 at McComb Natatorium.
Â
The Golden Eagles took one of the two relays contested on the night, starting the meet out with a narrow victory in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of
Connor Cary,
Paul Flowers,
David Bocci and
Austin Prokopec just barely held off the Fighting Scots' top relay squad, finishing in 1:35.69 to outpace Edinboro by just 0.05 seconds.
Â
That led to a huge stack of points in the 1000 Free, with Clarion boasting the top three finishers in the event.
Ty Rabenstein was the top finisher in the small field, touching the wall in 10:06.11, while
Trent Napholz (10.27.38) and
Isaac Wayne (10:36.22) followed close behind. The hits kept on coming in the 200 Free, with
Mason Irwin (1:45.85) and
Michael Lintelman (1.51.13) taking the top two spots in the 200 Free as the Golden Eagles expanded their lead for the evening.
Â
Edinboro responded by taking the top spots in the 50 Free and the 400 IM, but Cary put the Golden Eagles back in the driver's seat with a win in the 200 Fly. Cary finished in 1:57.54 while his teammates Irwin (1:59.67) and Prokopec (2:00.11) came in second and third respectively, halting the Fighting Scots' positive momentum. Bocci and
Dominic Cortopassi took the top two spots in the 200 Back, with Bocci finishing in 1:55.96 and Cortopassi in 1:59.25, and Clarion swept the top three spots in the 500 Free to put the result essentially out of reach.
Â
Lintelman and
Joe Feiser put the cherry on top for the met, taking the top two spots in the 200 Breaststroke. Lintelman finished in 2:15.06 and the Feiser in 2:24.69, as the Golden Eagles wrapped up the evening.
