Women's Swimming & Diving Edged at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle women's swimming & diving team lost a narrow decision in a dual on Friday night, with Clarion falling to Edinboro 115-90 at McComb Natatorium.

The Fighting Scots won the first three individual events of the night, with Clarion unable to pull of their first event win until the 50 Free. It was a convincing victory, though, as Hannah Greenway blew away the field and won by nearly two full seconds in the sprint. Greenway touched the wall in 23.53, well ahead of Edinboro's Makayla Scheu, who finished second in 25.22. Madelynn McTeer (25.57) and Haley Miller (25.78) were in third and fourth respectively.

Jordan Kutchak was the next Golden Eagle to win an individual event, taking home the title in the 100 Free. Kutchak paced the field with a time of 54.97, while Miller finished off the short race with a time of 55.28 to stack up more points for Clarion. The 200 Free Relay team of Miller, Kutchak, Joslyn Jurski and McTeer wrapped the night with a win, edging out the Fighting Scots for first place in a time of 1:40.74.

Despire those strong performances, the Fighting Scots were able to edge out the Golden Eagles on the balance of the rest of the events. Edinboro took the 200 Medley Relay by nearly three seconds to start the night, and Paige Smith won three individual events to lead the way for the Fighting Scots. Stephanie Sipple won a pair of individual events and was part of the winning 200 Medley Relay.

Clarion did manage to stack up some points in a couple of other events. Michaela Hinkson and Hannah Greenway took second and third in the 200 Fly, with the former finishing in 2:16.08 and the latter in 2:21.89. Maria Wold, Stella Chierico and Maddy Murphy took second through fourth place in the 200 Backstroke, and the dual of Emma Dorsey and Mandy Dial took second and third in the 200 Breaststroke.
