Women's Swimming & Diving Opens Season With Two Invite Wins

CARLISLE, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle women's swimming & diving team opened up the 2023-24 season with a pair of meet victories on Friday afternoon, taking first place in the PSAC Fall Invitational with a score of 1,192 points, and following that up with a first-place finish in the PSAC Fall Sprint Frenzy with a score of 1,213 points.

PSAC Fall Invitational Recap
It was a loaded field of six teams in Carlisle for the early meet, with the Golden Eagles pacing the field due in large part to their ability to stack points. Emma Dorsey was the first event winner of the day for Clarion, hitting a PSAC-qualifying time in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.19. She was followed closely by Michaela Hinkson and Corina Paszek as Clarion took the top three spots in that event.

That represented the only time a Golden Eagle won an individual event in the meet, but it was quantity that made the difference for Clarion. In the 50 Free, five Golden Eagles finished in the top-nine, with each of them – Maddy McTeer, Joslyn Jurski, Jordan Kutchak, Amanda Fetsko and Ava Rosely – all hitting PSAC qualifying times in the process. McTeer took third in the field, finishing in a time of 25.20. Maria Wold led a quintet of Golden Eagles to place in the top-10 in the 100 IM, taking fourth with a time of 1:02.99, while Jurski, McTeer, Kutchak and Fetsko all recorded PSAC marks in the 100 Free.

One other  PSAC qualifying mark came in the 100 Breaststroke, where Rosely took sixth with a time of 1:10.14.

The top relay finish of the day for the Golden Eagles came in the 200 Free Relay, with the quartet of McTeer, Jurski, Fetsko and Kutchak coming up just fractions of a second short against IUP's top foursome. The Golden Eagles touched the wall in that event in a time of 1:41.16, just 0.12 seconds behind the Crimson Hawks.

PSAC Fall Sprint Frenzy Recap
In a meet filled with some unique relays and events, the Golden Eagle women were once again the top team among the six competitors. The 200 Medley Relay team of Wold, Rosely, Dorsey and McTeer kicked things off with a second-place finish, touching the wall in 1:53.32.

It was in the short, unique relays where the Golden Eagles started to make some hay. Dorsey, Hinkson and Paszek kicked off the first of those with a first place finish in the 3x100 Fly Relay, finishing in a time of 3:04.87. The foursome of Stella Chierico, Jurski and Erika Zimmerman took third in the 3x100 Back Relay, finishing in a time of 3:08.97. Wrapping up those relays was the 3x100 Breaststroke Relay, where Rosely, McTeer and Dorsey finished third in a time of 3:37.10.

In the individual events, McTeer won the 50 Fly, just barely edging out Edinboro's Lillian Dilts. McTeer finished in a time of 27.82, just .06 seconds faster than Dilts. Meanwhile, Jurski finished just a half-second behind Edinboro's Izabella Hanek in the 50 Back, touching the wall in 28.67.

Bookending the win was another relay victory, with the foursome of McTeer, Fetsko, Jurski and Kutchak winning the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:41.81.
