Women's Golf Closes Home Invitational in Third

BROOKVILLE, Pa. --- Hannah Smith shot the second-best round in the history of the Golden Eagle women's golf program on Monday, earning all-tournament team honors at the Clarion Fall Invitational. The Golden Eagles themselves finished with two-round team score of 690 (347-343), placing third out of six teams at Pinecrest Country Club.

Smith shot a 76 over the course of 18 holes on Monday, making her the first Clarion player to shoot under 80 since Alyssa Gerhart shot a 79 at Clarion Oaks on Sept. 26, 2010. Since the program's inception in 2008, only one round has come in lower; Jenna Rinker carded a score of 73 in the first round of the Baldwin Wallace Tournament on Sept. 12, 2009, en route to a program record two-round score of 152 (73-79).

That said, Smith's day capped off a strong showing at the Golden Eagles' home tournament, giving her a two-round score of 159 (83-76). That tied her for fifth-place overall in the field with Gannon's Andrea Martinez. Smith birdied the par-3 third hole and shot par on 13 holes, with only one double-bogey to show for her day.

Samantha Huth had the second-best round of the day for the Golden Eagles, shaving five strokes off her previous day's performance to card an 87 on Monday. She birdied her second hole of the day, the par-4 18th hole, and climbed two spots in the overall standings to place 18th. Freshman McKayla Kerle shot a round of 89 on Monday to finish in 17th place overall, with a two-round score of 172 (83-89).

Rounding out Clarion's scoring was Sylvia Stibley, who had a near-identical score from yesterday's round. Stibley shot a 91 on Monday to give her a two-day score of 181, putting her in 19th. Hailee Liptak finished just five strokes behind her, going 95 on Monday for a two-round score of 186 (91-95).
