Volleyball Logs Second Straight Road Sweep, Beat Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle volleyball team wrapped up a perfect three-match road swing with a sweep on Saturday morning, beating Mercyhurst 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-18) at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
 
Clarion's offense put on a clinic against the Lakers, hitting .356 for the match. The Golden Eagles committed just seven errors on 101 attempts and out-killed Mercyhurst 43-30 in three sets. By comparison they held Mercyhurst to just a .104 attack percentage, recording 13 total team blocks.
 
The duo of Cassidy Snider and Savannah Taosoga combined for 25 total kills, with the former recording 13 and the latter 12. London Fuller and Charlie Allison each notched four blocks apiece, and Fuller dished out 31 assists in three sets of action.
 
The first set was tied at 7-7 before the Golden Eagles started to pull way, starting with a kill by Kearney. The freshman middle helped Clarion win the race to 15 points with a kill at 15-12, and Julia Piccolino notched a kill to make it 20-14. Taosoga bashed a kill to make it 23-17 and Haley Fledderjohann forced set point with an ace. That led to an error by Mercyhurst two points later, giving Clarion the first set.
 
There was even less drama in the second set as the Golden Eagles opened on a 10-2 run, including kills by Kearney and Snider to punctuate the rally. Allison fired a kill to make it a 15-8 lead, and Snider won the race to 20 with a kill at 20-12. Snider finished off the set with a kill as well, taking a set from Fuller to make it 25-16.
 
Mercyhurst kept things close in the third set, tying things up at 13 and 15 at different points, but the Golden Eagles countered with a 6-0 run to put the outcome firmly in their hands.  Taosoga and Allison recorded kills to make it 18-15, and Taosoga added another kill to punctuate the run at 21-15. Fuller ultimately blocked Paige Miller on match point, stuffing her for a block and the match win.
