Â
The team match started with three straight matches that went to overtime, with Ben Monn and Shawn Nonaka winning at 125 and 133 pounds respectively to put Mason ahead.

Schickel picked up his second win of the day, this time clocking a major decision against Kaden Cassidy, to put the Golden Eagles ahead 7-6.
Â
George Mason built a 12-6 lead with two more wins by decision, but Worthing cut into that with a major decision of his own, beating Sean Coughlin 8-0 in the 174-pound bout. Worthing got a late takedown in the first period and then opened the second with a reversal, riding Coughlin out for the rest of the period.
Cam Pine took a 5-4 decision at 184 pounds to put the Golden Eagels ahead 13-12 and they then clinched the team match at 197 pounds, when

The devil was in the details as the Bulldogs won the match based on the third tiebreaker criteria, total number of match points scored from decisions, major decisions and technical falls. The Citadel finished with 65 points, just edging out Clarion's 61 points.
Â
Joey Fischer and
Scott Johnson started the final match with wins by decision, with Fischer beating Malik Hardy by 8-4 decision at 125 pounds and Johnson defeating George Rosas at 133 pounds for his first career dual win. Jacob Silka racked up a major decision at 141 pounds with a 15-4 win over Varndell, but Schickel finished off a perfect 3-0 day with an 8-7 decision over Jeffery Boyd.
Â
At 157 pounds, Herrera-Rondon picked up his second technical fall of the day, working Thomas Snipes for an 18-1 win with 16 seconds left to compete in the third period. That gave the Golden Eagles a 14-4 match lead, and Pine made it 17-10 with a sudden victory takedown against Adam Ortega in the 184-pound bout. The Bulldogs rallied back in the final two matches of the day, though, with Patrick Brophy beating
Ethan Wiant in sudden victory to cut the deficit to 17-13. Jonathan Chesser did just enough to tie the team score in the heavyweight bout, beating Meyers by major decision with a 12-4 score.
