ASHLAND, Ohio --- The Golden Eagles men's swimming and diving team was back in action as they traveled to Messerly Natatorium, defeating Ashland University, 128-76.
Clarion raced off to a hot start, taking the top two spots in the 200-Medley relay and the 1000-Free. The quartet of Mason Peck, Gavin Guckavan, David Bocci, and Austin Prokopec touched the wall in 1:36.51, two seconds faster than teammates Dom Cortopassi, Stewart Messer, Trent Napholz, and Nolan Songer. In the long-distant 1000 Free, Napholz would take an early advantage, pacing the competition for the entire heat and finishing with a time of 10:32.71.
Prokopec earned his second victory of the evening in the 50-Free, touching the wall in 21:86, just a mere .39 seconds faster than Ashland's Nicklaus Girz. The 200 IM would see the Golden Eagles in the top two spots, as Guckavan and Michael Lintelman finished with times of 1:57.99 and 2:01.83, respectively.
The 100 Fly would see a photo finish between teammates as Cortopassi edged out teammate Bocci by just .07 seconds with times of 51.10 and 51.17. Rounding out the top three, Henry Miller would touch the wall at 51.63. Next would see another Prokopec victory, his third of the night in the 100 Free, finishing the event with a time of 48.35, one second ahead of the next swimmer.
Rounding out the night, Clarion would secure two more victories, with Cortopassi finishing with a sub-minute time of 58.03 in the 100 Breast. The final event of the night would be the 200 Free Relay, which saw Clarion's "A" team of Miller, Peck, Bocci, and Guckavan finish with a time of 1:26.99, edging out Ashland's "A" team by just over a second.
The Clarion men's swimming and diving team will be back in action on November 30th for day one of the four-day Zippy Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
