AKRON, Ohio --- The Golden Eagle men's swimming & diving team broke a pair of program relay records on Thursday evening, kicking off a successful opening day of the Zippy Invitational hosted by Akron. Clarion posted 158 team points on the first day, putting them in fifth place.
Â
With just two swimming events on the schedule on Thursday, the Golden Eagles made a strong first impression, starting with the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of
Connor Cary,
Henry Miller,
David Bocci and
Austin Prokopec took ninth place overall with a time of 1:29.32. That cleared the previous school record set just last year by Cary, Bocci, Prokopec and
Paul Flowers by more than two full seconds; last year, that grouping set a program record with a time of 1:31.36.
Â
Not content to set one school record on Thursday night, the Golden Eagles went on and set another program record in their second relay of the night. Bocci, Prokopec, Cary and Dom Cortopassi shined in the 800 Free Relay, taking seventh in the loaded field with a time of 6:39.74. That shattered a 30-year-old program record of 6:42.74, set back in 1993.

Action will resume in Akron on Friday morning, with the prelims slated to start at 9 a.m.
