ANCHORAGE, Alaska --- The Golden Eagle women's basketball team wrapped up their two-game swing in Alaska on Sunday afternoon, falling by a 78-33 score to Alaska-Anchorage at the Alaska Airlines Center.
Â
Clarion struggled scoring in all but one quarter on Sunday, shooting 7-of-13 (.539) from the field in the second quarter but just 7-of-44 (.159) in the other three periods of action.
Sadre'a Rougeau and
Hannah Wilkerson each tied for the team-high with eight points apiece, with Rougeau hitting a pair of three-pointers and Wilkerson going 4-of-11 from the field. Rougeau also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Â
Defensively, though, there were periods where the Golden Eagles held their own. The Seawolves shot 50.0 percent from the field in the first quarter of action but Clarion held them to just 18-of-59 (.305) from the field for the final 30 minutes of action. That helped the Golden Eagles to the quarter where they had their best overall play, outscoring Alaska-Anchorage 17-13 in that frame.
Â
Wilkerson put the Golden Eagles on the board in the second quarter, taking a pass from
Bailey Matrascia and laying it in, and Rougeau added a three-pointer at the 6:17 mark.
Malayziah Etheredge cut the deficit down to 34-10 with a make, and Matrascia cut the deficit back under 20 points with 1:05 left in the first half, making it 38-20 with 1:05 left to go.
Â
It was still a 20-point game with 5:18 left to go in the third quarter after
Dominika Logue took a pass from Wilkerson and made a three-pointer, making it 45-25. The Seawolves began to stretch the lead further before the end of that period, making it 64-27 with 10 minutes to play. That advantage went over 40 points in the fourth quarter as Alaska-Anchorage continued to pressure the Golden Eagles.
Â
Clarion will resume Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action next week when they host Kutztown and East Stroudsburg.
