Swimming & Diving Dominates Home Invite

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle men's and women's swimming & diving teams honored Dave and Kim Hrovat before the start of the meet, and the athletes themselves put on one of their best performances of the season at Clarion's home invitational on Friday night.

It was announced before the meet that the Dave and Kim Hrovat Diving Scholarship had been established, which will be awarded to a member of the Golden Eagle swimming & diving team as determined by the program's diving coach. It is named in honor of Dave Hrovat, the longest-tenured coach in Clarion history who served as the diving coach from 1990-2021, as well as Kim (Strawbridge) Hrovat, a 1995 graduate of Clarion and a former NCAA champion. During Dave Hrovat's tenure, Golden Eagle divers won 48 individual national championships and earned 294 All-American distinctions.

The latest generation of Golden Eagles looked to cement their own trips to the NCAA championships on Friday, and for the most part the crew did so in dominating the four-team field. On the men's side, Jack Beattie and Jordan Morret both recorded their second NCAA qualifying scores of the season, earning them spots in the championship prequalification meet in March.

Beattie set new pool records in the 3-Meter (6 Dives) and 3-Meter (11 Dives) events, with scores of 325.95 and 517.30 respectively Those were also the winning scores of the night in both events, with Morret placing second (498.65) in the 11-dive program and fourth (324.50) in the six-dive program. Andrew Cestra just missed out on hitting NCAA scores of his own, taking second in the 3-Meter (6 Dives) with a 258.95 and fourth in the 3-Meter (11 Dives) program with a 456.70. Cestra was the top finisher in the 1-Meter (11 Dives) program, scoring a 428.45.

On the women's side, Luna Castellanos hit an additional NCAA score in the 3-Meter (11 Dives) event, winning the event with a score of 473.00. Alexa Gonczi took second with a 467.45, while Anna Vogt placed third in that event with a 417.20. Victoria Watkins was the winner in the 1-Meter (11 Dives), scoring a 379.95, followed by Liz Brand (365.50) and Bria Lewis (365.40). Castellanos won the six-dive program in the 1-Meter, hitting a mark of 276.60, followed by Vogt (252.70), Gonczi (246.30) and Addie Restelli (232.60). Castellanos was the top finisher in the 3-Meter (6 Dives) program at 267.60.
