Castellanos Captures Second NCAA Title, Wins 3M Board

INDIANAPOLIS --- Luna Castellanos entered rarefied air on Friday evening, completing a sweep of both boards with a national championship in the Women's 3-Meter Dive at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.

Earlier this week, Castellanos won a national championship in the 1-Meter Dive, and the freshman locked up another title on Friday. Castellanos edged out fellow freshman Mikaela Senkus of Wayne State with a score of 484.60 in the finals, just under five points ahead of Senkus's second-place total of 479.70.

With the win, Castellanos joined an elite club in what was already one of college diving's elite sororities. She is the first Clarion diver to sweep both boards at a national championship since 2014, when Kristin Day won both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter boards. She is the eighth different Golden Eagle woman to win both boards at an NCAA championship event in the same year, joining Day, Kayla Kelosky, Jamie Wolf, Amanda Earnest, Stephanie Sutton, Amy Paganie and Doria Mamalo. Those eight women combined to win both boards at an NCAA championship in 12 total seasons.

Joining Castellanos in earning honors on Friday were Alexa Gonczi and Anna Vogt, who both earned All-America Honorable Mention honors. Gonczi finished ninth on the 3-meter board for her second career All-America Honorable Mention honors, while Vogt took 13th for the third such honor of her career. Gonczi scored a 437.55 while Vogt posted a score of 403.35.
