Track & Field Concludes First Day at CMU Invite

PITTSBURGH, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle track & field team finished the first day of a two-day stretch in Pittsburgh on Friday afternoon, competing at the CMU Invite hosted by Carnegie Mellon.

Shelly Jones continued her impressive start to the season with a second-place finish in the Shot Put, ranking behind only Duquesne's Madelyn Moretti to lead all non-Division I competitors. Jones tossed the implement 12.79m, more than a third of a meter ahead of third-place Emma Miller from Allegheny. Emma Pesicka also competed in the Shot Put, taking 17th with a toss of 10.22m.

Elsewhere in the throws, Madison Brooks placed 22nd in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 33.27m.

Rounding out the performance in the field was Emily Pleslusky, with the junior placing eighth  in the Pole Vault. She posted her best mark since April of last year, clearing the bar at 2.65m.

The track events on Friday afternoon included just a handful of distance events, but the Golden Eagles showed well in those to kick off the weekend. Courtney Kosanovic enjoyed the best performance of the day in the long distance events, finishing fifth overall in the 3000m Steeplechase. The senior finished in a time of 12:54.59, just behind IUP's Stella Kuntz, who finished in 12:45.41.

In the mid-distance events, Mackenzie Carver finished 19th in the 1500m with a time of 5:02.00, the best time of the young season for any Golden Eagle in the event. Allison Farson also competed in the event, finishing in 5:21.26.
