Castellanos Wins 1-Meter Title at NCAAs

INDIANAPOLIS --- Luna Castellanos won the 56th individual NCAA Championship in the history of the Golden Eagle women's swimming & diving program, taking home the title in the Women's 1-Meter Dive on the first day of the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium. Anna Vogt joined her in earning laurels, as the senior was named an All-America Honorable Mention with a 12th-place finish.

Competing in the first NCAA Championship event of her collegiate career, Castellanos finished the afternoon's preliminary round with a score of 443.55, good enough for third place and a spot in Wednesday's finals. She topped that performance by 30 points in the evening session, easily the best improvement made by any individual in the final. Castellanos scored a 473.55, edging out Wayne State's Mikaela Senkus by less than three points.

Castellanos is the first Golden Eagle women's diver to win a national championship since Christina Sather won the 3-Meter board in 2019. Sather was also the last Golden Eagle women's diver to win on the 1-Meter board, doing so a year prior in 2018. Castellanos is also the first national champion for diving coach Heath Calhoun, who is in his second year working with the Clarion divers.

Meanwhile, teammate Anna Vogt added to her own impressive list of career achievements, earning All-America Honorable Mention honors. Vogt took 12th in the event, posting a score of 398.25 in the afternoon's preliminary round. It is the second time Vogt has earned Honorable Mention honors, as she took 10th place on the 1-Meter board at last year's championships. Alexa Gonczi just missed that cut herself, placing 18th with a score of 377.85.

All three divers will return to action later this week for the 3-Meter board.
