CLARION, Pa. --- The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their 2023 softball Academic All-District teams on Tuesday. Five members of the Golden Eagles softball program – Megan Anderson, Allison Gilliam, Carissa Giordano, Alyssa Stitt and Kendyl Switzer – made the cut and will now go on to the ballot for Academic All-America.
 
To earn Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must possess a grade-point average of 3.50 or better, be at least a sophomore academically as well as in terms of eligibility, and be a starter or important reserve on their team. Each softball program is capped at five Academic All-District selections.
 
Anderson (3.95 – Communication) set career highs across the board in her senior season, recording personal record totals in wins, appearances, innings pitched and strikeouts. The pitcher finished with a 6-10 record on the season and 13 career wins.
 
Gilliam (3.62 – Nursing) had perhaps the best season of her career in 2023, batting .243 with four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs. She started 26 games, primarily at the designated player spot.
 
Giordano (3.69 – Nursing) was a First Team All-PSAC West selection in the outfield in 2023 after breaking a number of single-season and career records at Clarion. She ranked among the conference's leaders in on-base percentages and set career highs in batting average, doubles, triples, home runs and RBIs.
 
Stitt (3.89 – Criminal Justice Administration) was also an all-conference outfielder in 2023, earning Second Team honors after her own record-breaking campaign. She shattered single-season program records for RBIs, hits and total bases, all while hitting a team-best .340.
 
Switzer (3.92 – Early Childhood Education) was primarily a bullpen option for the Golden Eagles, making 11 total appearances and four starts. She finished with a 1-2 record on the year that included one complete game.
