NEW ORLEANS --- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their 2023 NCAA Division II outdoor track & field all-region teams today, with two Golden Eagles –
Shelly Jones and
Jenna Uncapher – earning honors in the Atlantic Region.
Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.
Jones took fourth place in the Shot Put at the 2023 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The senior fouled on her first two attempts of the preliminary flight but then responded with her best toss of the day, sending the implement 13.17m to earn a spot in the finals. That mark stood as the fourth-best in the field, putting Jones on the podium.
Uncapher, meanwhile, capped her Golden Eagle career with the best Heptathlon performance in program history, taking second in the field to earn All-PSAC honors and setting a school record in the process. With a total score of 4,501 points, she surpassed Diane Kress's program record of 4,481 set in 2008. That also represented the second-best score in the event on Friday, putting her behind only Shippensburg's Nicola Pugge.
Those two performances, along with a host of others, gave the Golden Eagles a ninth-place finish at the PSAC Championships. That represented their first top-10 finish at the conference meet since the 2011 season, when they took 10th place. This season marks their best conference outdoor finish since 2009, when they placed eighth.
