Soccer Falls 1-0 to Edinboro on the Road

Box Score EDINBORO, Pa. --- In a low-scoring affair, Edinboro defeated the Golden Eagles soccer team in a PSAC West showdown, winning by a score of 1-0. Shots were few and far between, with only 19 total between the two sides in what was a physical defensive game that featured 16 fouls and a pair of yellow cards.

With 37:48 left in the second half, Edinboro broke through on the scoreboard for the only goal of the day. The Fighting Scots executed a perfect play off a free kick, with Madison Felton passing the ball to Virginia Zabala, who then chipped it over the leaping Sage Sherk, breaking the tie and giving the Fighting Scots a lead they did not relinquish. The deciding goal was Zabala's first of the season.

Clarion mounted an attack with their best chance coming off a turnover with 17:20 left on the clock, allowing Marisa Colondrillo to race down the pitch and fire a shot that Sandra Malave stopped. At the 11-minute mark, Madison Rose fired a shot on goal off a free kick following an Edinboro yellow card, but the shot was stonewalled by Malave.

The Golden Eagles outshot Edinboro by a margin of 10-9, but only half of their shots were on the net compared to the Fighting Scots seven shots on goal. Ciara DiMauro led the team with four shots, with all of her shots coming in the first half of action. In the 21st minute, DiMauro had a pair of shots: one from a free kick that hit the crossbar, and then she gathered the rebound but sailed the ball high over the net. Colondrillo played all 90 minutes and was second on the team in shots with two, both of which were on goal.

The Golden Eagles' defense was physical throughout the match and allowed only nine shots. Sherk had a strong game for the Golden Eagles, totaling six saves on seven shots faced while playing all 90 minutes. Defenders Hailey Dobb and Tessa Heffron were a steady presence for the Golden Eagles, logging all 90 minutes of action in the Clarion backline.
