LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles placed five football players on the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) all-conference teams on Wednesday, including a pair of First Team All-PSAC West selections.
Trevon Tate (WR) and
Jake Tarburton (DE) were name first team offensive and defensive selections respectively, while
Devin Webb (OL),
Griffin Buzzell (LB) and
Owen Kling (DL) were all Second Team All-PSAC West honorees.
Â
The two First Team All-PSAC West selections for the Golden Eagles are the first since Mylique McGriff (RB) and Saif Kahn (DL) both got the honors in 2019. The year before was the last time Clarion had as many as five all-conference selections, with exactly that number making the cut in 2018.
Â
Tarburton is now a two-time All-PSAC selection after earning Second Team honors in 2023. The senior defensive end was remarkably productive despite dealing with significant injuries over the course of the year, ranking second in the conference and 15
th in the nation with 0.78 sacks per game. He recorded seven sacks and 13.0 tackles for loss in just seven games before missing the next two games entirely, and still led the conference in both categories for several weeks thereafter. Tarburton became the first Golden Eagle to record as many as seven sacks in a season since Tyrone Archie (7) in 2015, and became the first Clarion player to record double-digit tackles for loss in back-to-back seasons since Julian Howsare did it three straight years from 2012-14.
Â
What Tarburton did for the defense,
Trevon Tate did for the offense. One of the most productive receivers in the nation during the regular season, he ranks second in Super Region 1 and seventh in the nation with 1,137 receiving yards, second and eighth respectively with an average of 103.4 receiving yards per game, and seventh and 19
th respectively with 5.9 receptions per game. He is just the fourth Golden Eagle receiver to ever top 1,000 yards in a season, and his total receiving yards ranks second for a season in program history behind Clarion Sports Hall of Famer Alvin Slaughter. Tate recorded 100 or more receiving yards in seven games in 2024, one behind Slaughter's program record in 1998.
Â
Griffin Buzzell earned his second consecutive Second Team All-PSAC West honor, as the linebacker continued his development into a leader not just on the defense but for the team. He ranked fourth in the PSAC with 90 tackles while also contributing 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception. Over the last two seasons he's totaled 166 tackles, 12.5 TFL and three sacks.
Â
Owen Kling earned the first all-conference honors of his career, as he continued to be a rock in the middle of the Golden Eagles' defensive line. The numbers were not gaudy – 16 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks – but the cumulative effect was noticeable as he demanded regular double-teams on the interior. Clarion held opponents to a 3.9 yards per carry average for the season.
Â
Devin Webb earned his first-ever all-conference honors as well, with the sophomore guard starting all 11 games for Clarion on the offensive line. Most of those starts came on the interior of the offensive line but his last game of the year saw him get the start at left tackle, filling in for injured players. The Golden Eagles finished the year sixth in the PSAC in total offense at 364.9 yards per game.
